Mermaids

***This photo set that I’m about to share with you is one of my favorites. I’ve been wanting to explain why it’s so special to me for a while now so I’m super excited to be able to post about it on here.***

When I moved to O’ahu, I became friends with a group of girls who lived in Kaneohe and for fun we would always go to the beach and play in the ocean. It became a usual thing for us so we nicknamed ourselves “ningyos” which means mermaids in Japanese, but to us it was more than a nickname. It was a lifestyle that we identified with. We were in the ocean and the ocean was within us.

Back in August, myself and one of the other ningyos, Sadie, got to do a fun little photo shoot at an ice pond near Kaneohe. We decided to get a little creative with it so we decided to make it mermaid themed. It makes me laugh to think that we went to the craft store and threw it all together three hours before we met with the photographer but I’m still very pleased with how the images turned out! It was just such a fun experience to be with one of my best friends embracing our inner goddesses in our favorite element. I’m happy that I can save that afternoon forever.
